Malinska has once again proven itself as a hub of cultural richness and community spirit in 2024. From the awakening of spring to the festive winter season, the town has been alive with events that celebrate its heritage, gastronomy, and love for the outdoors.
Spring Awakening: Culinary and Cultural Delights
The year commenced with the Spring Break in Malinska (April 12 – May 5), offering a blend of nature, history, and gastronomy. Visitors engaged in Glagolitic calligraphy workshops, explored the ancient oak forests of Dubašnica, and learned to craft traditional šurlice pasta. The weekends were filled with guided walks to historical sites like Cickini and Sršić, complemented by tastings of local delicacies.
Following this, the Malinska Walk & Taste (May 18 – June 1) invited food enthusiasts to embark on a gastronomic journey. Eight local restaurants, in collaboration with the Maritime Heritage Interpretation Center DUBoak, showcased island specialties such as lamb dishes, šurlice, and Kvarner wines. Guided tours enriched the experience, blending culinary delights with cultural insights.
Summer Vibrancy: Music, Tradition, and Maritime Heritage
Summer in Malinska was marked by a series of events that highlighted its cultural tapestry. The 68th Krk Folklore Festival (June 8-9) brought together performers from across the island, celebrating traditional music, dance, and the unique sopile instrument. This festival, the oldest of its kind in Croatia, underscored the island’s commitment to preserving its intangible cultural heritage.
The Malinska Beerfest (June 28-29) transformed the town square into a haven for beer aficionados. Attendees enjoyed a diverse selection of over ten beer styles from renowned breweries like Medvedgrad and Zmajska, accompanied by street food and live performances from bands such as One Dread and Ljetno Kino.
July’s highlight was the Malinskarske Noći (July 26-27), a two-day festival featuring performances by Soulfingers, Maja Šuput, and Infinity Band. The event combined music, gastronomy, and community spirit, drawing both locals and tourists to celebrate under the summer sky.
In August, the Portiuncula event (August 2) paid homage to maritime traditions. Participants embarked on a boat procession to the Glavotok monastery for blessings, followed by an evening of local cuisine, wines, and cultural exhibitions, emphasizing Malinska’s deep-rooted connection to the sea.
Autumn Adventures: Embracing the Outdoors
As the leaves turned, Malinska welcomed the Malinska Outdoor Weekend (November 8-10). This three-day event catered to outdoor enthusiasts with activities like trail running, hiking, cycling, and Nordic walking. Educational sessions and a kids’ bike park ensured that participants of all ages could engage with the island’s natural beauty.
Winter Festivities: Family and Community Celebrations
The year concluded with the Obiteljski Dan (Family Day) on December 15. Held in the Advent tent, families enjoyed a day filled with fritule-making competitions, creative workshops, and musical quizzes, encapsulating the festive spirit and community warmth that Malinska is renowned for.
Looking Ahead: Anticipating 2025’s Celebrations
